Meth-fueled violence leaves Calgary ER staff feeling unsafe


Crystal Meth has surpassed the opioid crisis in the West. The behaviours presented by someone under the influence of similar substance are impulsive and irrational. De-escalation techniques often fail because the attempt is to rationalize with the individual in crisis.


Team intervention and short trauma-informed scripts might be a better return on the investment. In such a situation where someone is under meth psychosis, it is not what you say that might reduce the level of arousal experienced by the consumer, but rather the way you say it!
