The goal of this program is to introduce participants to the importance of psychological safety as the foundation for building effective work teams and vibrant organizations. Establishing psychological safety in the workplace helps shift the culture from one of blame and silence to one that fosters a learning organization.
A learning organization is defined by a social environment that promotes employee engagement, creativity, innovation, inclusion, and support for each member's well-being, allowing them to make their optimal contributions to the organization.
Rationale
Feeling secure and being able to work without the fear of negative consequences, even when you make a mistake, requires feeling psychologically safe. Humiliation, blame, criticism and bullying create workplaces where employees experience fear rather than confidence. This kind of psychologically unsafe environment prevents staff from performing at their best. Workers are too busy watching their own backs and frightened of making mistakes, and as such they avoid recommending changes or supporting each other.
In environments where people care for the most vulnerable, leaders must care for their teams—psychological safety isn’t optional, it’s the ground where trust, resilience, and meaningful work grow.
Target Audience
This introductory program is designed for the leadership of the organization. Educational sessions will be complemented by consultations to support the co-creation of a psychologically safer and more resilient learning organization. Elements of this program are also introduced to front-line workers in the Proactive Strategies to Enhance Workplace Wellness and Organizational Health program.

Support House
"We debriefed the training yesterday at team meeting. Everybody was excited, felt more confident about going into the community and shared specific learning. One staff person was especially grateful for the extra help you gave her, she didn’t say exactly what it was, but she did say that it made a big difference for her both personally and professionally. It means a lot to me that you took such good care of them. Thank you."
